On the road again....

Well I'm pretty much halfway up the East Coast of Australia now, and I'm having an amazing time. My first stop was surf camp where I tried surfing, but failed miserably! It was a great laugh though and we ended up sat on the beach with a full moon and it was awesome!

I spent just over a week at Byron Bay, basically turning hippy! By the end of the week I had become supertanned, and had my Aura photographed, that was actually very interesting, however I realised at this point I should leave before I started wearing hippy clothes and never cutting my hair. Surfer's Paradise was up next and it reminded me a little of Benidorm, all high-rise buildings and tacky shops. i had an awesome night out there though, and it has a lovely beach. We headed up to Brisbane and spent a day there, mainly hanging out by the beach on the South Bank, this is really cool as it is a lagoon type place, with sand and a lifeguard, really nice and right by the Brisbane river.

I left Brisbane and headed up to Noosa, which is a beautiful holiday spot for wealthy Aussies, it was described as a bit yuppy-ish, again though the beach is lovely and the waves are massive. Had a comedy night out there, I met a girl on the bus whose birthday it was, and so headed out in Noosa, however it's a kind of quiet place in the evening, and it was a Thursday, so we headed to the Surf club first, a great laugh but definitely a place for locals, and it was Karaoke night... I did sign up but the list was full, unfortunately!!! We found the local night club then, called Rolling Rock and were completely amazed by the free Aviator shades that we all got when I bought a Midori! We may have been a little inebriated at this point.... Great laugh though.

I left Noosa and hit Rainbow Beach next where I got my first Happy Birthday (yes it's 2 months away, but it was the next out of everyone on the bus!) and it was sung down a didgeridoo, by an Aussie called Bear. Sometimes there are no explanations, questions or answers. Rainbow beach is beautiful and I went on a walk up a sandblow with a group of people from the hostel, led by a guy called Forrest. We reached the top of the sandblow and it was amazing! the view was incredible and it was like going somewhere that no-one had ever been before, leaving the first footprints. It's called Rainbow beach because of the different coloured sand, which vary from black, to yellow, to orange, red and white. That night I played some killer pool, before an early night as the next day I was heading to Hervey Bay. My gateway to Fraser Island.

I got back from Fraser Island last night after a fantastic few days, storming around the island in a 4x4 truck with 8 people. It is the biggest sand island in the world, so the roads are tracks in the sand, and once you get to the sea you can't go in it due to the amount of sharks. There is sharks all over Australia, obviously, but this is the first place I've been where they specifically tell you not to swim in the sea... That's definitely saying something about this place!!! The lakes however make up for this, and they are so beautiful, Lake Wabbi and Lake McKenzie stand out the most for me, Lake McKenzie has amazing white sand, and blue water. We also visited Indian Head Rocks, where you can watch sharks feeding (I saw one!) and Champagne pools, which are saltwater pools in the rocks (Where no sharks can get in!). We were all completely shattered by the end of the 3 days, so last night headed out for a nice cold beer and all-you-can-eat Mexican food!

I leave Hervey Bay tomorrow for a Cattle station, and then Airlie Beach on Friday, ready for a trip to the Whitsunday islands!!!

p.s. when I get home, ask me about sandblows, and how fraser island was formed and what it does for the great barrier reef. It's too complicated to write down but is really fascinating.
